Position Description: 

The Child Development Center Teacher has responsibilities for a specified group of children within the Child Development Center.  Teachers are required to create developmentally appropriate lesson plans and implement appropriate learning experiences in the areas of cognitive, emotional, physical and social growth.  Teachers must be able to reflect our commitment to the children and families we serve by providing professional and predictable care. 


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans activities for the group that are developmentally appropriate to that group's level of development. 
  • Facilitates morning and afternoon snacks that are appropriate for the age group and that allow for choice where appropriate and feasible. 
  • Coordinates serving lunches to the children. 
  • It is expected that the teacher be in tune with and meet the individual needs of the children in the classroom.  
  • Maintaining basic cleanliness in the classroom; including emptying the garbage each day, vacuuming the room at the end of the day, and wiping down the tables and chairs where the children eat.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CDA or TCC preferred
  • All applicants must have a desire to teach and be willing to continue their education in the education field.   
  • While previous experience working with children is desirable, it is not a prerequisite for employment. The philosophy of the Center is that by hiring individuals who are working a on a degree in education, we obtain individuals who are learning theory in the University classroom and who then have the opportunity to have ongoing practice at implementing that theory.


Environmental and Working Conditions:

Normal environment found in an office and/or educational setting. Some exposure to outdoors and varying weather conditions may be required.


Physical Demands and Aptitudes:

Some lifting and/or carrying objects up to 30 pounds are required. This position requires repetitive usage of arms, legs, eyes to include sitting and standing to a significant degree.


Work Hours:

37.5 hours per week.  Generally Monday-Friday from 9:30 am to 6:00pm.  Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.


Special Requirements:

This position requires that the employee hold and continue to maintain a clean criminal history background.
